Shane Immelman - Chief Operating Officer

Shane is the founder of Kommunity Group Projects, a multi-national organisation specialising in the educational upliftment and development of underprivileged youth across the continent of Africa, using a unique model of media, corporate and development agency intervention. During 2011 Shane established the Desmond Tutu Tutudesk Campaign Centre.

Shane is a social entrepreneur with an interest in low-tech, disruptive technology innovation and application in addressing base of the pyramid, mass market lifestyle challenges. His current interests include media, enterprise development and skills development initiatives, all relating to the further development and upliftment of underprivileged African youth and women.

Shane’s unique and innovative market approach has been recognised widely: he has been the recipient of the Proudly South African : New Business of the Year Award (2005) inducted as an Endeavor Entrepreneur in 2006, winner of the South African iHeroes Grand Prix Award (2007) finalist in the Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Awards (Social Category, 2008) is an inducted member of The African Leadership Institute (2008) a Desmond Tutu Fellow (Oxford, 2008) a 2009 LINC Fellowship recipient, an invited member of the inaugural group of the African Leadership Network (2010) and a recent recipient of the Global Humanitarian Laureate (The Tech Awards, 2011). Shane actively supports emerging market and social entrepreneurship development programmes with business schools and faculty both locally and internationally, including Harvard, MIT Sloan, Stanford, in Europe – INSEAD, and South Africa – the Gordon Institute of Business Science, the University of Johannesburg and the University of Stellenbosch. Shane also serves on the Advisory Board of the Shonaquip Uhambo Foundation.
